Inspired By... OPI Fairytale Bubbles KOTD

  Today I have for you a Konad design inspired by Brooke, over at Babbling Brooke.  Hers is the very first polish blog I really got into reading, and what inspired me to start up my own blog!  I remembered one of her designs that I really loved, which you can see here, and was inspired to recreate this design on my own nails!

  For these nails, I used three coats of OPI Diva of Geneva for the base, which is a gorgeous color by itself as well (I have included a few pictures later in the post).  On top of that, I added Konad with plate m65 using OPI The Color To Watch.  This is a gorgeous color combo, and super sparkly in the sun!  I am loving it!

  In her post, Brooke mentioned that the design reminded her of the bubbles in Disney's Cinderella, and I agree that they are very whimsical and fairytale-like!  I am really having fun with this one - definitely staring at my nails a lot lately!

  Above you can see Diva of Geneva by itself.  It is a really pretty color by itself, and almost looks like velvet on the nails.  I am glad that I picked this one up!

Halloween Water Marbling

  Last night I got the inspiration to try water marbling again - and I think it turned out fairly well this time!

  Yay, I actually managed to come up with somewhat of a uniform pattern this time!  I tried to alternate the direction of the swirls for something a bit more interesting.  Overall this marbling went well - still some air bubbles, I need to work on that in the future.

  For this marbling, I started off with two coats of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On as a base on the nails.  Then I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On, OPI Funky Donkey, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Black Out, and OPI Brights Power for the marbling effect.  The orange did pale up a bit, looking almost a peachy color, not quite the bright orange that you see in the bottle.  But it is still fun, and still very Halloween-y, I think!

  This afternoon as I was sorting through my polish collection, I got the urge to try a new sparkly glow-in-the-dark over this.  It is a lot of fun!  Unfortunately, I can't seem to get any good pictures of it glowing in the dark, so I can't show you that feature, but it is pretty cool.

  I am really pleased with this water marbling attempt, I think it turned out quite a bit better than the last couple of times!  Even my sister Becky, who didn't really like water marbled nails before, told me this was pretty cool.  I think it is a really fun and interesting technique, and I will keep practicing and hope to improve even further in the future!

Breast Cancer Awareness - Pink Roses

  As I am sure you are all aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  While I have not personally known friends or family affected by breast cancer, I know of many friends and acquaintances whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.  In the lab that I work in as a graduate student, we study a variety of cancers.  While my project specifically focuses on certain types of childhood and adult leukemias, others in my lab do study breast cancer.  In addition, the drugs that I am currently studying in leukemias may on day be proven to be effective in other cancers, such as breast, in the future.

  In honor of the month, today I have for you pink rose nails.

    For these nails, I used three coats of OPI Chapel of Love, and I only needed the third coat because I was watching a movie and not paying much attention to application, and therefore had avoidable bare spots.  I used Konad plate m65 with OPI Ate Berries In The Canaries to put the darker pink roses on top.  Then I finished it off with a coat of Seche Vite.

Mummy, May I Konad?

  I have been dying for the CG Awakenings collection ever since I first saw them.  A couple of days ago, Dan brought me home two polishes from the collection, Ick-A-Body and Mummy May I?  He is so sweet to get me some pretty polish, especially when I am home sick!  :)

    For these nails, I used three coats of China Glaze Mummy May I? followed by two coats of Seche Vite top coat.  Although I was loving the color by itself, I wanted to go ahead and play with some Konad as well, so I used Konad Special White with plate m64.  I do not currently have any Halloween plates, but this one still kind of reminded me of a spider web, so I went with it!  Maybe it is about time to order those BM plates... :)

In full sun

  The polish is a very dark purple/wine color, with loads of pink glitter.  It is really pretty!  I have noticed several comments on this being bumpy even after top coat, and I will admit, that after two coats of Seche Vite it was still just a tad bumpy.  However, I personally did not find it to be distracting or annoying at all, since it is not that bad and the polish is definitely pretty enough to make up for it!

  Overall a very fun, pretty, vampy color!  I am loving it as a Halloween polish as well as just a fall polish in general!
